The Tobacco Factory, Bristol

ACE Grant for Tobacco Factory

Bristol's Tobacco Factory has announced that the Arts Council has agreed to meet its application for a capacity grant in full. This is the first step towards the Theatre being able to achieve the realistic sustainability that it needs for the future.

"We are delighted," said Helen Palmer, Chair of the Trust."This is just the news we have been waiting for. It will mean we can now appoint a Director to run the Theatre which in turn will ensure that other funding and partnerships are also put in place to give us the financial viability we need to continue with the excellent and innovative work we have produced so far.

"We still have need for an Appeal - it's not a huge amount, but £50.000 would make all the difference to us now - but at least we know that the Arts Council are willing to support us. The Bristol City Council have placed us in the category of Key Arts Provider and we are hopeful that they too will be able to give us a little more financial support in the near future.

"We have been receiving donations already and a wealth of good wishes that make us realise we are important to the community of Bristol and the South West. The kindest thing that the general public can do is to come to see our shows and, if they can, to please give us a donation."
