New Welsh TIE Organisation Over the last thirty years, Wales eight Theatre In Education/Theatre for Young People companies have worked consistently to deliver, promote and develop a professional Theatre service for young people and the wider community. Recently, these eight companies have collaborated to establish a unique, innovative and dynamic agency of organisations and individuals concerned with Theatre and Drama both with, and for, young people in Wales - the National Agency Of Wales For Theatre For Young People. This agency was officially launched on Thursday, 13th March, at the 5th Agor Drysau - Opening Doors Wales International Festival of Theatre for Young Audiences in Aberystwyth, hosted by Cwmni Theatr Arad Goch, which ran from 11th 15th March. The organisation will provide a legal framework to enable the companies to continue to work constructively and closely together to promote TIE/TYP and encourage best practice in the pursuit of excellence in the creation of a dynamic theatre culture that takes into account the best interests of children and young people. It will also provide a more effective mechanism for co-operation between the companies to enable them to communicate with a degree of cohesion and authority in pursuing their shared aims. The eight companies boast combined audience/performance figures over the last year of 56 Productions, 1840 Performances, 1936 Workshops, 1598 school visits, and 151,831 attendances. This amount of activity also provides substantial employment opportunities for the Arts, providing significant and long-term economic benefits for the industry and for Wales as a whole. Working closely with the Agency, The Arts Council of Wales will be hosting a Theatre For Young People Symposium based on Cultural Entitlement at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama on 10th April.
