the TKTS kiosk at Canary Wharf station

TKTS Kiosk in Docklands

The Society of London Theatre has opened a new half-price tkts kiosk at the Canary Wharf Docklands Light Railway station (platform 4/5).

The original half-price kiosk in Leicester Square, set up in 1980, has been, up to now, the only official reduced price ticket outlet in London. Now it is joined by the Canary Wharf kiosk which, like the original, will sell tickets on the day at anywhere between half- and full-price, depending on the show.

Paul James, Commercial Manager of the Society of London Theatre, said, "We’ve always been aware that there were huge numbers of people who would love to take advantage of the ticket offers of our Leicester Square booth, but were simply unable to get into town during the day. Now thousands of Docklands workers and residents – and indeed anyone with access to the Docklands Light Railway – can snap up the same bargain tickets."

London mayor Ken Livingstone added, “I’m a big supporter of West End theatre through such things as my ‘Get Into London Theatre’ initiative. Something like this, which will enable more people across London to experience the magic on their doorstep, is great news for Londoners.”

Update: tkts Canary Wharf ceased trading on Saturday 22 September, 2007.
