TMA Award Winners 2006

The winners of the Theatrical Management Association Awards for regional theatre have been announced.

The TMA Awards celebrate the very best in British theatre, opera and dance. The ceremony was held at the Hampstead on 15th October and hosted by actor and playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah.

Best Performance in a Play
Greg Hicks for Tamburlaine at Bristol Old Vic

Best Supporting Performance in a Play
Tom Brooke for The Long and the Short and the Tall at the Lyceum, Sheffield

Best Performance in a Musical
Junix Inocian for Pacific Overtures at the Haymarket, Leicester

Best Supporting Performance in a Musical
Nicole Faraday for Bad Girls - The Musical at West Yorkshire Playhouse

Best Director
Nina Raine for Unprotected at the Everyman, Liverpool

Best Touring Production
Jerry Springer - the Opera

Best New Play
Rubenstein Kiss by James Phillips at Hampstead

Best Musical
Road to Nowhere at the Lyric Hammersmith

Best Design
Robert Innes Hopkins for Promises, Promises at the Crucible, Sheffield

Best Show for Children and Young People
National Theatre of Scotland's Wolves in the Walls on tour

Achievement in Opera
Welsh National Opera's Mazeppa

Achievement in Dance
Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo for their hilarious blend of low comedy and high glamour that lampoons and celebrates the golden age of classical ballet.

Special Award for Individual Achievement
Thelma Holt

The Stage Award for Special Achievement in Regional Theatre
English Youth Ballet
