The Theatre Museum, Blackpool? According to a report in The Stage, Blackpool council and the Victoria and Albert Museum are discussing the possibility of a new Theatre Museum in the Lancashire seaside town using m,aterial from the V&A's theatrical collections. Blackpool is the home of the National Theatre of Variety, the Grand Theatre, and the town has a number of collections of local theatrical memorabilia which would complement the V&A collection, says the council's spokesman on culture and leisure David Owen. "The V&A is committed to showing the theatrical collections to as wide an audience as possible," V&A director Mark Jones told the newspaper. "Blackpool has a strong theatrical and entertainment tradition, and the city attracts millions of visitors a year. A new museum in Blackpool could provide a wonderful platform to tell the story of British theatre." Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
