Dateline: 28th May, 2004
Opera in the Square English National Opera is to perform Puccini's La Bohème in Trafalgar Sqaure next month. The free performance starts at 7.30 on Wednesday 7th July. The square will be covered with artificial turf to transform it into what ENO calls a "grassy park".
Paul Daniels conducts with Mary Plazas as Mimi, along with the ENO orchestra, chorus, principal singers and twenty children. The production - the first time a full-length opera has been performed in Trafalgar Square - forms part of ENO's attempts to make opera more accessible, a policy which will also see them performing at ther Glastonbury Festival later this summer. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
