Writers' Guild Awards Shortlist
The Writers Guild of Great Britain has announced the shortlists
for its 2007 Awards. The winners will be revealed at a ceremony hosted
by Jeremy Hardy on Sunday 18th November. Thanks to generous sponsorship
from BBC, ITV and Working Title, the awards will now be held at BAFTA
(David Lean room) 195 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LN.
The writers short-listed, in no particular order, are as follows:
Best Original Drama (TV)
- Victoria Wood - Housewife, 49
- Peter Morgan - Longford
- Neil McKay - See No Evil: The Moors Murders
Best Soap / Series (TV)
- Various - Dr Who
- Various - New Tricks
- Various Life on Mars
Best Comedy / Light Entertainment (TV)
- Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Tony Roche - The Thick of It
- Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant - Extras
- James Corden and Ruth Jones - Gavin & Stacey
Best Play (Theatre)
Best Screenplay (Feature Film)
- Tony Grisoni - Lives Of The Saints
- Paul Laverty - The Wind That Shakes The Barley
- Jeremy Brock and Peter Morgan - The Last King Of Scotland
(based on the book by Giles Foden)
- Shane Meadows - This Is England
Best Radio Play
- Charles Wood Conspiracy at Sevres
- Mark Lawson Expand This
- Steve Gooch - McNaughton
Best Videogame Script
- Charles Cecil, Ross Hartshorn, Neil Richards and Tony Warriner -
Broken Sword: Angel of Death
- Dan Houser, James Worrall and David Bland - Grand Theft Auto:
Vice City Stories
- Dan Houser and John Zurhellen - Canis Canem Edit
All the nominated writers had to be British or have worked in Britain.
Eligible programmes / plays / books etc had to have been first released,
published, performed or broadcast during the period 1st June, 2006 -
31st May, 2007, inclusive.
Other awards presented at the ceremony on Sunday 18th November will
be:
- A Lifetime Achievement Award
- An award for Outstanding Contribution to Childrens Writing
- A Special Award from the Writers Guilds Books Committee
