The Mutuals
Charlie Chaplin entered movies in 1914 and in 1916 signed a contract
with the Mutual Film corporation. in the process, with a salary of
$670,000, he became the highest paid entertainer in the world. Mutual
built Chaplin his very own studio and allowed him total freedom to
make twelve. short two-reel films, He had the time of this life, and
recognised this early peroid of filmmaking as the most inventive and
liberating of his career.
This evening will feature screenings of three of the best of The Mutuals
- behind the screen, East Street and the Adventurer, to live musical
accompaniment conducted by Carl Davis, who has written new music for
all of The Mutuals films. Audience members will then have an opportunity
to talk to Carl in a question and Answer session after the performance.
Featuring members of the orchestra of the Welsh National Opera.
