WNO's 2006-2007 Season

Welsh National Opera has announced its season from autumn 2006 to summer 2007.

The Return of Ulysses

New production, sung in Italian
Playing at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, on 16th and 23rd September, before going on to Oxford (17th & 19th October), Llandudno (26th October), Birmingham (7th November), Bristol (14th Noveber) and Southampton (28th November)
Directed by David Alden and conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini

Tristan and Isolde
By Richard Wagner
Sung in German
Playing at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, on 30th September & 7th October; followed by Oxford (21st Oct), Llandudno (28th Oct), Birmingham (11th Nov), Bristol (18th Nov), Southampton (2nd Dec), and Liverpool (9th Dec).
Directed by Yannis Kokkos and conducted by Mark Wrigglesworth
The running time is 5 hours 45 minutes.

La Bohème

Sung in Italian
Directed by Göran Järvefelt and conducted by Carlo Rizzi (15th & 17th Sept, 11th Oct, 8th & 10th Nov), Michal Klauza (29th Sept, 3rd , 5th, 20th Oct, 15th & 17th Nov)
At WMC on 15th Sep & 17th Sep, 3rd & 5 Oct, moving on to Swansea (11th Oct, 13th Oct), Oxford (20th Oct), Llandudno (25th & 27th Oct), Birmingham (8th & 10th Nov), Bristol (15th & 17th Nov), Southampton (29th Nov & 1st Dec), and Liverpool (8th Dec).

Chorus!
A showpiece for the Chorus of Welsh National Opera, Chorus! is a journey through opera - from melodies which are familiar, to music and songs which will inspire you to find out more: excerpts from Bizet's Carmen, Verdi's La Traviata, Handel's Semele and Wagner's epic Die Meistersinger as well as the classic Ave Maria from Poulenc's Dialogues of the Carmelites.
Directed by David Pountney and conducted by Donald Nally.
At the WMC on 2nd, 4th & 6th Oct, then Swansea (12th Oct), Oxford (18th Oct), Llandudno (24th Oct), Birmingham (9th Nov), Bristol (16th Nov), Southampton (30th Nov), and Liverpool (7th Dec).

Khovanshchina
By Modest Mussorgsky
A new production, sung in English
Directed by David Pountney and conducted by Lothar Koenigs
At the WMC on 17th & 24 Feb, then Southampton (10th Mar), Milton Keynes (31st Mar) and Birmingham (14th Apr).

Madam Butterfly
By Giacomo Puccini
Sung in Italian
Directed by Joachim Herz and conducted by Julian Smith
At the WMC on 3rd, 10th & 16th Feb, and 1st & 3rd Mar, touring to Southampton (6th and 8th Mar), Milton Keynes (27th & 29th Mar), Birmingham (10th & 12th) Apr), and Plymouth (18th & 20th Apr).

Carmen
By Georges Bizet
Sung in French
Directed by Patrice Caurier & Moshe Leiser and conducted by Michal Klauza
At the WMC on 25th & 28th Feb and 2nd Mar, going on to Southampton (7th & 9th Mar), Milton Keynes (28th & 30th Mar), Birmingham (11th & 13th Apr), and Plymouth (19th & 21st Apr).
