WNO Autumn Season 2006

Welsh National Opera has announced its autumn 2006 season.

Opening the season at the Wales Millennium Centre will be Monteverdi's The Return of Ulysses, sung in Italian, conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini and directed by David Alden. The production is based on an original concept developed by Bavarian State Opera in Munich and is a co-production with The Royal Danish Theatre. It opens at the WMC on 13th September and also plays on23rd .

Opening on 15th September is Puccini's La Bohème, conducted by Carlo Rizzi (15th & 17th September) and Michal Klauza (29th Sept, 3rd & 5th October) and directed by Göran Järvefelt. The production is sung in Italian and features an almost entirely Welsh cast, including Rebecca Evans as Mimi, Gwyn Hughes Jones as Rudolfo, Jason Howard as Marcello and Charlotte Ellett as Musetta.

On 30th September and 7th October Mark Wigglesworth conducts Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, directed by Yannis Kokkos and sung in German. The production runs for five and three quarter hours. Tristan will be sung by John Mac Master and Isolde by Annalena Persson.

On 2nd, 4th and 6th October the popular Chorus! returns, featuring a wide range of music including excerpts from Bizet's Carmen, Verdi's La Traviata, Handel's Semele and Wagner's Die Meistersinger as well as Poulenc's classic Ave Maria.
