Dateline: 19th March, 2006
April to June at Watford Watford Palace Theatre's latest season of work has just been announced and there is an eclectic mix of drama on offer through the spring and summer. Two of the country's top touring companies will start their National Tours at Watford, in association with WPT: Hoipolloi present The Impostor a farcical story freely adapted from Molière's Tartuffe (3rd - 8th April); and Oxford Stage Company launch their visual spectacle Paradise Lost (21st - 29th April). OSC Artistic Director Rupert Goold took on the challenge of `staging the unstageable' whilst at the Royal and Derngate Theatres, Northampton, and is now taking this hugely ambitious production on the road. It stars Jasper Britton as Satan. WPT will then present Joe Penhall's multi award-winning satire Blue/Orange which will be directed by Literary Director Joyce Branagh. It will run from 18th May to 10th June. Alex Lowe plays the consultant and further casting will be announced soon. In June, Assistant Director Anthony Biggs presents his first full scale production, Hiding, at the theatre (15th - 17th). On placement from the MFA course in Theatre Directing at Birkbeck University of London, Anthony has assisted on numerous productions at the theatre as well as directing a small-scale rehearsed reading of Hiding earlier last year. The production stars Tanya Franks. Finally, Salisbury Playhouse's production of A Touch Of The Sun will play at the theatre for one week only (20th - 24th June). N C Hunter's sharply written sketch of an unsettled society is directed by Joanna Read. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
