Last Card Trick at Watford A new play by Stewart Permutt, One Last Card Trick, will play at the Watford Palace from 2nd to 18th March. The play is set in the basement of a West End synagogue where three elderly Jewish women frequent the Friendship Club. Regular as clockwork Hetty, Sophie and Magda spend the afternoon playing the card game Kaluki, reminiscing about the good old days and absent friends. But all that is about to change, rumours are brewing that the synagogue is going to be sold. Fearing the worst, and wanting to protect their club and memories from the hands of commercialism, they decide to take direct action. Starring are Amanda Boxer (The Graduate in the West End), Avril Elgar (Three Sisters), Gillian Hanna (Roman Polanski's Oliver Twist) and Debra Penny who previously appeared at the Palace in News From The Seventh Floor. The play will be directed by the Palace Theatre's departing Artistic Director Lawrence Till and co-director Stefan Escreet. Stewart Permutt has had numerous successes to his name in the West End, including Singular Women starring Lesley Joseph, and Unsuspecting Susan. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
