Copenhagen Comes to Watford Watford Palace Theatre presents Michael Frayn's award-winning modern classic Copenhagen next month. First performed at the National Theatre in 1998 and later seen in the West End and on Broadway, the play is based around an actual conversation which took place in 1941 between two of the world's most eminent scientists, German Werner Heisenberg and Jewish Dane Niels Bohr, who both had the knowledge to create weapons of mass destruction. It explores what they might have discussed and what the implications were for the two friends on opposite sides in a World War. Jack Klaff, who plays Niels Bohr in the Watford production, is unusual in his in-depth knowledge of the subject matter. He has lectured at Princeton University and written The Bluffers Guide To The Quantum Universe. His scientific and other one-man shows have attracted critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Festival and he has also written, directed and contributed to television and radio projects on the subject. Kate Fahy, who plays Bohr's wife Margrethe, recently starred in The Goat at the Almeida and in the West End and has also worked at Hampstead Theatre, National Theatre and Young Vic. Tom Smith plays Bohr's former pupil Werner Heisenberg, was recently seen in Matthew Lloyd's Hedda Gabler at the West Yorkshire Playhouse and A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Bristol Old Vic, and won the TMA Award for his work in Matthew Lloyd's production of Present Laughter at the Royal Exchange, Manchester. The production is directed by Matthew Lloyd, who is currently Artistic Director at the Actor's Centre and previously Artistic Director of the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester and Associate Director at Hampstead Theatre. The production is designed by Ruari Murchison (Frozen at the National Theatre and Titus Andronicus at the RSC ), with lighting by Matthew Eagland (Hiding and One Last Card Trick at Watford Palace Theatre) and original music is composed by Richard Taylor (various productions at West Yorkshire Playhouse and Manchester Library Theatre). Copenhagen runs at Watford Palace Theatre from 28th September to 14th October. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
