Youth on Board at Watford

Watford Palace Theatre has appointed a board of young people aged under 18 to complement the work of its main board and provide insight for the direction of the Theatre.

The Youth Board consists of ten members who will meet monthly to discuss the theatre's plans and developments. The board will have the opportunity to influence decision making, with their minutes reported to the Theatre's main Board.

All ten members of the Youth Board are from different areas in Hertfordshire and are aged between 14 and 18 years old. Many of the Board members have been involved in projects at the Theatre in the past although some are completely new to the Theatre.

Watford Palace Theatre's Communications Director Adrian Lesurf said, "It's great to have a group of young people working with us in this way to give us valuable insight into our plans for the future. The Watford Palace Theatre Youth Board will provide younger members of our community with a great opportunity to gain a better understanding of the running of a theatre and the workings of a local charity."

Youth Board meetings will allow members to meet with theatre professionals including actors, directors and designers providing an opportunity to learn more about the arts and help them with their own career paths. Each meeting will have a different topic for the Youth Board Members to discuss: the theatre's new website, programming for young people, and so on.

It is expected that many of the Youth Board members will use the experience as part of the National Arts Award scheme.

The Watford Palace Theatre Youth Board will meet for the first time on Wednesday 16th March.
