Shakespeare at Wilton's Wilton’s Music Hall has announce the first in a new annual season – Shakespeare At Wilton’s. Nick Hutchison will direct Rachael Stirling and Oliver Chris in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. This production aims to explore the role-playing, the games and the deceptions of this most theatrical of comedies and to discover what passions lie beneath the façades of its outlandish group of characters.
Rachael Stirling, who is currently appearing in Uncle Vanya at Wilton’s, will play Kate. She is probably best known for her role in the TV adaptation of Sarah Water’s book Tipping The Velvet. Her theatre work includes Theatre of Blood at the National Theatre, Helpless at the Donmar Warehouse and A Woman of No Importance at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket.
Oliver Chris is best known for his role as Boyce in the TV series Green Wing. His other television work includes Bonkers, IT Crowd and The Office. On film he has appeared in The Other Boleyn Girl, The Gathering and Bridget Jones The Edge of Reason. In this production he is making a return to the stage in the role of Petruccio.
Located on the City fringes near the Tower of London, Wilton’s Music Hall is the world’s oldest and last surviving grand music hall. Built in 1858, it is Grade II* listed and was a finalist in the first BBC series of Restoration. The building is owned and managed by the Wilton’s Music Hall Trust and is currently seeking funding to assist with its capital repair project. The Taming of the Shrew opens on 22nd March (previews from 19th) and is booking until 28th April.
