WTC - to Christmas and Beyond The Wales Theatre Company has announced its autumn to Christmas programme, with each production playing in Swansea and then touring to throughout Wales. From 18th to 21st October a musical version of Dylan Thomas' A Childs Christmas in Wales will be performed at the Grand Theatre, Swansea, before moving to the New Theatre, Cardiff, from 23rd to 28th October as part of the Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre. The music for the show has been written by John Herrick of the Tony Award-winning Red Clay Ramblers. The second production, playing at the Grand from 26th to 28th October and 6th to 11th November, will be a revival of Mal Pope's Amazing Grace. A musical based on the story of Evan Roberts and the Welsh Revival, it was first presented for the stage by The Wales Theatre Company in association with Swanseas Grand Theatre in 2005 and toured to great critical and audience acclaim. The original cast starred Peter Karrie as the Rev. Peter Price and Shân Cothi as Mary Roberts, and both will recreate these roles for this first revival of the show. After Swansea, it will play at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff from 15th to 20th November, and will also visit Aberystwyth and Llandudno. The final production of the season will be a new stage version of A Christmas Carol, adapted from Dickens' novel by artistic director Michael Bogdanov and actor Ron Moody, who will also play Ebenezer Scrooge. It will be at the Garnd from 31st October to 4th November. With A Child's Christmas in Wales it will then tour across Wales during the Christmas and New Year period. It promises to be an amazing theatrical autumn and Christmas for Wales with these three wonderfully contrasting productions touring the length and breadth of the country," said Michael Bogdaov. "Im delighted to be reviving Mal Popes Amazing Grace and providing an opportunity for all those who missed it first time round to enjoy this wonderful new musical and to be creating a new musical production of Dylan Thomass timeless classic A Childs Christmas in Wales. Im also excited to be working with Ron Moody, one of the West End and British Films best loved performers, as he steps into the role of Scrooge for the very first time, and we will be spending much of the spring and summer together adapting Dickenss Christmas classic. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
