YES to Edinburgh

Yorkshire's hottest talent are counting down the days to Edinburgh Festival Fringe when six professional touring companies will be representing the biggest region by showcasing new writing and stunning performances. Edinburgh has become the Festival capital of the world over the last sixty years, and this year hosts two-thousand-five-hundred shows throughout August.

'It's a great opportunity to experience world class touring theatre,' says Leeds based playwright and broadcaster, Ray Brown of Normal Productions. 'But taking your show up to Edinburgh can be very taxing on time, energy levels and money. It's a big empty bucket for companies to throw money into. I decided to make the bucket smaller. United we stand, divided we're broke.'

Ray Brown plans his run up to Edinburgh like a military operation. Having seen too many 'novices' fall at the first fence, he decided to create a network of support for theatre companies across the region by igniting Yorkshire Edinburgh Showcase - Y.E.S. For months he's been watching interesting, exciting, quirky productions from newcomers and established companies alike. Now he's invited five companies to join him in Yorkshire Edinburgh Showcase.

What's was he looking for? 'Freshness, dedication, and,. I have to admit it - laughter. But I didn't exclude an amazing production based on Euripides nor a certain amount of contemporary feminine angst! There's masses of talent and experience in Yorkshire, and other good companies will be in Scotland this summer - but I do feel there is something extra special about the six YES productions. And, wow, does it make economic sense to share resources!'
