Youth Music Theatre Auditions Youth Music Theatre: UK has over 2,000 places available on its UK wide auditions for young people interested in being part of one of eight new musicals in 2008. Auditions are open to any young person between the ages of 11 and 21 and productions vary from a new version of Peter Pan to a clown/commedia version of Great Expectations. In Scotland YMT:UK will be developing a new work composed by Gerard McBurney (Theatre de Complicite/Chicago Symphony Orchestra) from The Silver Bough by F Marian McNeill and in Ireland Riverdance MD Mark Dougherty will be creating a new show on contemporary themes. Full details of next year's productions are available online. Auditions take place in nineteen cities across the UK and young people are selected to take part in productions that take place in Scotland, Northern Ireland and England over the summer. There will also be auditions in Dublin for the first time with auditions taking place at Dance Ireland. All the productions are residential so, once a young person has successfully auditioned, they join the company at one of the seven UK centres to create the production. Young people interested in joining the company through auditions should go to the company website and then call 0870 240 5057 to make their booking. Actors' auditions are 2 hour workshops with groups of up to 30 young people. Instrumentalists are the only people to get individual auditions. You can audition as both an actor and instrumentalist on the same day if you wish. You audition for the YMT: UK company, not for a specific show. If succesful you will be allocated to a production based on the show's requirements and your talents.
