After a première at Hampstead Theatre Festival last year, a regional tour of Posting Letters to the Moon starts on March 1.

The title is from wartime letters by actress Celia Johnson to her husband Peter Fleming (brother of Bond-creator Ian Fleming) during a period that culminates in her filming Brief Encounter in 1945.

It is a funny and touching account of life during the war and highlights the problems of a dual existence of domestic problems while being a film star.

The production features Johnson’s daughter Lucy Fleming and Simon Williams, married in real life and no strangers to playing opposite each other. They play Lord and Lady Wavell in new film Viceroy’s House released in March and make regular appearances as Justin Elliott and Miranda Elliott in The Archers.

Posting Letters to the Moon opens at the Dukes in Lancaster on March 1 and the next day is performed at Carnforth Station Heritage Centre, where Brief Encounter was created.

On March 4, it’s at Glenridding Public Hall, with optional 1940s dress code, and a prize for best outfit

March 5 at Alhambra Cinema Keswick, also with a screening of Brief Encounter and on March 7 at Ennerdale Centre.
