Beyond the End of the Road

Morpeth-based theatre company The November Club is developing a new musical, Beyond the End of the Road, exploring rural life in Northumberland.

With a score by folk musician Katie Doherty, inspired by traditional Northumbrian folk music but with a contemporary twist, and lyrics by writer/director Laura Lindow (Key Change for Open Clasp on tour, at the Edinburgh Fringe and in New York), the piece will feature tales of farming, commuting, changes and choices, of family, friends and home-life, gathered from residents of several villages across the county during summer 2016.

The company will hold an informal evening of stories, scenes and songs which may form part of the final production in a work-in-progress evening at the Queen’s Hall in Hexham on Wednesday 7 September at 7PM.

Beyond the End of the Road—the story so far will offer the audience the opportunity to discuss and feedback on the work which will then be developed into a final touring show, to be presented in partnership with Highlights Rural Touring at several venues across Northumberland and at The Auction Mart, Hexham in June 2017.

Doherty’s own experience of moving to a farm in rural Northumberland from the city has been an inspiration for this new work and, for the final tour, she will create a brand new score, with Lindow’s lyrics, based around the theme of choice and rural farming life.

Each performance of the final show in each location will be unique, telling the stories of that particular place and involving local people, performers and musicians.

Tickets for the sharing (£7.50, which includes a glass of wine) are now on sale from the Queen’s Hall box office.
