The Gateshead International Festival of Theatre (GIFT) brings an autumn pop-up theatre event to Gateshead’s Caedmon Hall on 27th October, the North East leg of the UK tour of All In by Atresbandes Theatre Company from Barcelona.

“I am really thrilled to be welcoming Atresbandes back to Gateshead after they received such phenomenal audience responses at GIFT in the past with their shows Solfatara, which featured as part of BE @ GIFT in 2012, and Locus Amoenus which was at GIFT 2014,” said Kate Craddock, GIFT’s director.

“GIFT is striving to build a year round programme of activity by producing pop-up events outside of the festival context, and I am especially thrilled to present a company who have been so inspirational to audiences and artists at previous GIFT events as part of this venture.”

Commissioned by HOME, Manchester and Festival TNT, Barcelona, All In is described as a surreal and funny exploration of the millennial condition and the tyranny of the crowd.

All In, the company tells us, “takes a wild ride through vastly different, seemingly unconnected worlds. These worlds are all incarnations of the tyranny of the crowd that annihilates the individual, from dictatorship to national anthems, education to self-help manuals and love as a marketable commodity. We consider ourselves to be free from indoctrination, but with this freedom comes the choice to participate in other systems of apparently harmless social control.”

The show is performed mainly in English with surtitles for a short section in Japanese.
