Young people taking part in a balletLORENT production

Newcastle’s balletLORENT is to hold its first summer school for 6- to 13-year-olds at Jesmond United Reform Church in Newcastle from the 15 to 19 August.

Led by experienced balletLORENT dancers and teachers, children will take part in dance classes, activities and workshops based on themes from the fairytale Rumpelstiltskin. The summer school will culminate in a sharing of the week’s activities open to family and friends.

In 2017, the company will première a new production of Rumpelstiltskin featuring an inter-generational community cast alongside the company’s professional dancers.

In the summer school, the children will also be given an opportunity to complete an Arts Award appropriate to their age. Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents. It deepens engagement with arts and culture, develops both creative and leadership skills, and leads to a national qualification. This part of the Summer School is optional.

Main activities will take place from 9:30AM to 4:30PM, but the company is offering childcare from 8:30AM to 5:30PM each day to support parents at work.

The cost of the full week is £120. There is a small extra charge for the Arts Award.
