ACE to Lose More Cash?

Arts Council England could lose a substantial portion of its £467m funding for 2010 - 2011 from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as the government attempts to cut spending to pay for the recession bail-outs, the organisation has said.

It is preparing for three possible scenarios, cuts of £7m, £9.4m or £14m. The government has warned "unprotected" agencies, which includes the DCMS, that it intends to claw back £5bn. The DCMS receives £2bn and ACE gets the biggest portion of that amount, not far short of 25%.

2010 - 2011 is the last year of the three-year funding agreement and was allocated the largest share of the money granted in the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review.

ACE has pledged that, no matter what the size of the cuts, it will protect as many RFOs (Regularly Funded Organisations) as possible.
