The Alchemist in London The first English stage version of Paulo Coelho's best-selling novel The Alchemist will follow its current thirty-venue UK tour with a six-week run at Pleasance London from 6th May to 19th June. In this adaptation by the Cornish Theatre Collective, Coelho's modern classic comes to life in an magical production that has already delighted audiences around the country. In its original small-scale production it was previously seen for a short run at the Finborough in 2002. This updated staging includes a new design by Patrick and Suki Haughton, newly commissioned music by Phil Innes, some of which is played live by the cast, and aerial puppetry directed by Paul Antonelli. The story of a shepherd boy's quest for his dream has captured the imagination of readers around the world, with almost thirty million copies sold. Santiago's journey through the colourful bazaars of Tangiers and the Egyptian desert is brought to life in this premiere English language staging of the tale, which has been seen by over ten thousand theatregoers around the UK on its current tour alone.
