TV actor Al Hunter Ashton, best known for playing Pitbull in London's Burning, has died of heart failure at the age of 49. He was found dead by his lodger. His TV acting career took in a whole range of different popular shows. As well as London's Burning, he appeared in EastEnders, Doctors, Murder in Mind, Holby City, Casualty, Juliet Bravo, Angels, Brookside, Crossroads, Bergerac and many more. He was also a writer, contributing regularly to EastEnders, The Bill, Emmerdale, and he was both writer and storyliner for Holby City and Casualty. He received a BAFTA award in 1994 for his film about homeless children, Safe, and was nominated for two more for his children's TV series, See How They Run. He was scriptwriter for the film The Firm which starred Gary Oldman and was directed by Alan Clarke. He wrote for the Unicorn Children's Theatre and a number of youth theatre and TIE companies. He was also writing tutor at the Actors' Centre. He leaves two sons, Michael (20) and Jay (9), and daughter Dale (12).
