“Extraordinary journey”: All You Need Is LSD

Casting has been announced for the world première of Leo Butler’s All You Need Is LSD at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry.

Presented by Told by an Idiot in partnership with Birmingham REP, the comedy “playfully dissects the UK’s ongoing drugs debate, exploring questions around personal freedom, and weighing up claims about both the risks and benefits of ‘recreational’ drugs”.

The cast features Told by an Idiot associate artist Annie Fitzmaurice, whose previous work with the company includes And the Horse You Rode In On at the Barbican and Shoot Me in the Heart at the Gate Theatre.

Joining her is George Potts who played Terry in Brendan Murray’s Seeing the Lights at the New Vic, Newcastle-under-Lyme in 2015 and had two roles, Ragueneau and De Guiche, in the Northampton Royal and Derngate and Northern Stage co-production of Cyrano de Bergerac in 2015.

Completing the cast are recent graduates Jack Hunter, who trained at Queen Margaret University, and Sophie Mercell, who went to Guildford School of Acting. Both appeared in Told by an Idiot’s Let Me Play the Lion Too by Michael Pennington at the Barbican.

All You Need Is LSD is directed by Told by an Idiot’s co-founder and artistic director Paul Hunter together with Stephen Harper who has devised and performed in six productions with the company.

Butler said, “this play takes inspiration from a lifetime of my experiences—from a misspent youth through to the responsibilities of fatherhood, and from being a guinea pig in medical trials to actually creating the play itself. I can’t wait to see it unfold on stage—the next step in an already extraordinary journey.”

All You Need Is LSD runs at the Belgrade from 15 until 17 November.
