When the Almeida Reopens

New artistic director Michael Attenborough has announced his programme for the newly refurbished Almeida Theatre in Islington, starting in April 2003.

The season will open with Ibsen's The Lady from the Sea, directed by Trevor Nunn. Al;though no casting has been announced, it is rumoured that Nicole Kidman will play the lead. It is known that Nunn had wanted to direct her in the play at the National.

The season will also include the world premiere of Antony Sher's I.D., which will be directed by Nancy Meckler (Shared Experience). This is Sher's first play.

Attenborough himself will direct another world premiere, the second play by Joanna Laurens, Five Gold Rings.

There will also be a UK premiere, Sam Shepard's The Late Henry Moss, and Attenborough also intends to revive the Almeida Opera season.

No dates have been fixed, but it is expected that the refurbishment will be completed by April.
