You Can't Do It! A village drama club from Staffordshire has been told to cancel a planned performance of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest as it might interfere with the West End production. The Alrewas Dramatics Society was intending to present the play at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre in October and had begun rehearsals when they were contacted by the copyright agents who informed them that permission was being refused because it might interfere with the production starring Frances Barber and Christian Slater at the West End's Gielgud Theatre. The play's director Paula Dumolo then emailed writer Dale Wasserman in the USA, asking for his support. She was very surprised - and even more pleased - when she not only received a reply within a couple of hours, but Wasserman actually gave her permission to go ahead. "I'm obviously full of respect for Mr Wasserman. I am very, very grateful to him," said Ms Dumolo. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
