Making positive changes: My Yard

A free live theatre performance which aims to raise awareness of the impacts of anti-social behaviour is touring schools in Staffordshire.

Lichfield Garrick, Staffordshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis and Leicester-based educational charity Pedestrian are working together on My Yard by Therese Collins-Cann.

Olivia Deane, who is leading the project on behalf of the Garrick, said, “a team of two actors is touring My Yard to schools and youth-focused organisations.

“The narrative follows a character living on a deprived estate who has lost faith with her surrounding community, and the transformation she encounters when she begins to make positive changes in her life.”

Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis added, “I’m delighted to be funding this evolving way of getting over to young people the message on difficult issues.

“In the past couple of years I’ve funded theatrical groups across Staffordshire to tackle subjects such as abuse, bullying and the risks of exploitation. They’ve been powerful, thought-provoking plays which have focused on the impact on all the individuals involved. My Yard adopts the same approach.”

My Yard tours Staffordshire schools until Friday 31 March.
