£2.5m for Aberystwyth Company Cwmni Arad Goch, the Aberystwyth-based bilingual theatre in education company, has received a grant of £575,000 from European Objective 1 money which, added to grants already received, means that it can enlarge and develop its Aberystwyth premises to offer vastly improved performance space, additional space and facilities that can be used by members of the community and to provide space to allow other artists and groups to develop new ventures. Its extension plans include the Old Manse in Bath Street which adjoins their current premises, allowing the creation of a unique cultural centre in the middle of town. It is hoped that the new base will allow artists to reach out to the community in different ways and in particular to share their skills with interested amateur groups. Funding has also come from the Arts Council of Wales (£1,846,165), Aberystwyth Town Council (£50,000) and the Welsh Development Agency. The company was established in 1989 and works in both the Welsh and English languages. It is mainly involved in providing theatre-in-education. Arad Goch seeks to create original and contemporary theatre of the highest standard for young audiences in Wales. The company tours to primary and secondary schools in Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire and also also tours the whole of Wales with an annual summer show for children and a yearly production aimed at the general public. These shows are performed in theatres, village and school halls and community centres. In addition the company organises Agor Drysau (Opening Doors), the biennial Wales International Festival of Theatre for Young Audiences. Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
