Dateline: 30th June, 2002 The Arches Award for Stage Directors "An opportunity unrivalled in Scotland" Once again The Arches is offering an exciting opportunity for emerging theatre directors to develop and showcase their talents in our refurbished performance spaces in central Glasgow.In line with The Arches' long-standing commitment to support and nurture Scotland's best young theatre talent and supported by the Scottish Arts Council, The Arches Award will give two emerging directors the chance to stage a funded theatre production at The Arches, Glasgow in Spring 2003.Each of the two winners will receive a production budget of £4000, alongside the free use of the allocated spaces, the full support of The Arches' marketing and technical teams and the services of an experienced directing mentor. The Arches Award is open to all emerging stage directors who have demonstrated both a commitment to working professionally and to working in Scotland. However, this list is not exhaustive and The Arches will welcome applications from any emerging theatre director. The Arches is committed to supporting a diverse programme of theatre to encourage both a wide variety of talent and a broad audience base. As a result we are inviting proposals for devised work; visual theatre; physical theatre; new writing and fresh interpretations of contemporary or classic text based work. We are welcoming applications for productions for either our studio space or large basement space. The judges will select two proposals that demonstrate individual vision and which together create a contrasting programme.
