Franz Xaver Kroetz is one of Germany’s most prolific modern playwrights. His socially critical plays have been the cause of much controversy and praise in equal measure. His work has earned him many prizes, amongst them the Bertolt Brecht Prize (1995) and the Oberbyerische Kulturpreis (1996) and he is recently experiencing a revival in Britain with such productions as Through The Leaves starring Simon Callow.
Kurt and Martha are preparing for the birth of their baby. They want the best for it and Kurt does all the overtime he can get. Baby Stefan is born and the overtime dries up. But there is some work his boss can get him, a special job for him alone. Hours later a remote lake turns red and baby Stefan’s skin is burning…
