Newcastle-under-Lyme’s New Vic is bringing its production of Around The World In 80 Days back to its in-the-round stage before it goes on a national tour.

Laura Eason’s adaptation of Jules Verne’s novel had runs at the Staffordshire theatre in 2013 and 2014. Andrew Pollard will reprise his role as Phileas Fogg and Michael Hugo will again play his manservant Passepartout.

The play features 109 characters, eight actors, six trains, six boats, four fights, two dances, a storm, a circus act and an elephant as mysterious and fabulously wealthy Phileas Fogg wagers his life’s fortune that he can circumnavigate the globe in 80 days.

The cast also features Jessica Lucia Andrade, Pushpinder Chani, Simi Egbejumi-David, Kirsten Foster, Matthew Ganley, Dennis Herdman, Joey Parsad and Stefan Ruiz.

New Vic artistic director Theresa Heskins directs. Designer is Lis Evans and James Atherton is composer and musical director. Movement director is Beverley Norris-Edmunds. Alex Stafford Marshall is lighting designer and Ellie Clare Taylor is assistant director.

Around the World in 80 Days runs at the New Vic from Friday 23 June until Saturday 8 July. It then tours to Nottingham Theatre Royal, Cheltenham Everman Theatre, Oxford Playhouse, London’s Cadogan Hall, Plymouth Theatre Royal, Cardiff New Theatre, Sheffield Lyceum, Salisbury Playhouse, Exeter Northcott Theatre, Kingston Rose Theatre, Coventry Arts Centre at Warwick, Liverpool Playhouse, Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Derby Theatre, Cambridge Arts Theatre, North Finchley Arts Depot and The Lowry, Salford until 7 January 2018.
