Auditions and the start of new season at Plymouth Barbican

Plymouth's Barbican Theatre has announced its autumn programme.

Theatre includes multi-award-winning Luke Wright’s play about the hollow reality of the New Labour dream What I Learned From Johnny Bevan, Theatre Centre's Layla’s Room about teenage life and biographical comedy Trevithick! from Kernow King.

There is also a dance and comedy programme which includes James Wilton's re-imagining of Moby Dick, Leviathan, and Myriam Lefkowitz's Walk, Hands, Eyes.

Works for younger audiences include Fagin’s Twist from Avant Garde Dance Company (age guidance 8+) and PaddleBoat Theatre Company's According to Arthur (age guidance 4+) and of course the Christmas show.

Nearly a quarter of the tickets have already been sold for Le Nevet Bete co-production of The Jungle Book.

​As the autumn season gets underway, Barbican Theatre is looking for young performers and dancers for its performance companies COMPANY b Dance and COMPANY b Theatre which form part of the venue’s performance training programme.

Artistic director Mark Laville said, “COMPANY b Dance and COMPANY b Theatre members train hard to create extremely high quality, original performances, inspired by their own passions and interests.

“Their work is experimental, meaningful and entertaining, with all the fun of training and rehearsal evident in the powerful energy and sheer skill of execution.”

Participants benefit from training and performance experience which can include residencies and workshops with visiting companies.

Auditions are open to those aged 14 to 25 and is suitable for young people studying GSCE, A Level or higher education courses in dance or theatre or with limited or no previous experience but a keen interest.

Auditions take place in the evening and run in the form of informal workshops; COMPANY b Dance auditions are on 20 and 27 September and COMPANY b Theatre auditions are on 21 and 28 September.
