Derby Theatre's Christmas production will be A Christmas Carol

Auditions are to be held for young people interested in appearing in Derby Theatre’s festive production of Neil Duffield’s adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol.

The theatre is looking for three teams of six actors aged between 8 and 16 to play a range of roles including Tiny Tim, young Scrooge, Little Fan and Martha. Each team will perform on different dates during the run.

Auditions will be held in groups of 20 on Sunday (28 September), with slots at 10 and 11:15AM and 1, 2:15 and 3:30PM. Youngsters will be asked to take part in a range of drama exercises and games as well as singing a Christmas carol on their own. Previous performing experience is not necessary.

Those selected will be asked to work for a full weekend (8 and 9 November) with director Sarah Brigham. The main rehearsals, with the professional company of actors, will start on Monday 10 November and each team of young actors will be required to rehearse twice a week.

Derby Theatre’s artistic director Sarah Brigham said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to gain audition experience and to perform alongside a professional company of actors.

A Christmas Carol is going to be a big, bold, magical production for the whole family and I’m looking forward immensely to a young company of local actors being an integral part of the show.”

To book an audition slot, call the box office on 01332 593939 or go to the Derby Theatre web site.

A Christmas Carol runs from Friday 5 December until Sunday 4 January.
