Dateline: 24th March, 2004 BAFTA TV Awards Nominees The nominations have been announced for the British Academy Television Awards sponsored by Radio Times, which will be held at Grosvenor House on Sunday 18th April 2004. Hosted by Davina McCall, the Awards will be broadcast on ITV1 & ITV2. State of Play, Have I Got News For You, The Office Christmas Special and Little Britain each have three nominations, while The Lost Prince, The Second Coming, The Wife of Bath (Canterbury Tales), Prime Suspect and Friday Night With Jonathan Ross each have two nominations. State of Play's three nominations are for David Morrissey and Bill Nighy in the Actor category and for Drama Serial. Bill's nomination comes after he was recently awarded the Supporting Actor BAFTA at this year's Orange British Academy Film Awards. Have I Got News For You has nominations in two categories - The Lew Grade Award for Entertainment Programme or Series and in the Entertainment Performance category for Boris Johnson and Paul Merton. Paul won in this category last year. Little Britain has been nominated in Comedy Programme or Series and David Walliams and Matt Lucas each have a nomination for Comedy Performance. The Office Christmas Special has picked up nominations for Situation Comedy - which The Office has won for the past two years - and Martin Freeman and Ricky Gervais are both nominated for Comedy Performance. Ricky has also won this category for the past two years. The Lost Prince has received two nominations in the Actress category, for Gina McKee and Miranda Richardson, and The Wife of Bath (Canterbury Tales) has nominations in the categories Single Drama and Actress for Julie Walters. Julie has won in this category for the last two years. The Second Coming has been nominated for Drama Serial and Actor for Christopher Eccleston. Helen Mirren is nominated for her role in Prime Suspect in the Actress category; the programme is also nominated for Drama Serial. Jonathan Ross has been nominated in the Entertainment Performance category for his show Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, and the programme has been nominated in the The Lew Grade Award for Entertainment Programme or Series category. In the Actor category, Jim Broadbent is nominated for his role in The Young Visiters and Stephen Fry has been nominated for Entertainment Performance for his role in QI. In the Situation Comedy category, Hardware, Marion and Geoff and Peep Show join The Office Christmas Special. In the Comedy Programme or Series category, Bo Selecta, Creature Comforts: Cats or Dogs? and Double Take have been nominated in addition to Little Britain. Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and Pop Idol have been nominated alongside Friday Night With Jonathan Ross and Have I Got News For You in the category The Lew Grade Award for Entertainment Programme or Series. In the Single Drama category, the nominations are Danielle Cable: Eyewitness, The Deal and This Little Life as well as The Wife of Bath (Canterbury Tales). Buried, Clocking Off, Foyle's War and William and Mary are nominated for Drama Series and Charles II: The Power and the Passion joins Prime Suspect, The Second Coming and State of Play for Drama Serial. The Bill, Casualty, Coronation Street and Holby City have all been nominated in the newly established Continuing Drama category. The British Academy decided to extend the Soap category to include the many popular long-running dramas that are transmitted for a minimum of twenty episodes throughout the year. In the Huw Wheldon Award for Factual Series or Strand, the nominations are Leonardo, The National Trust, Operatunity and Seven Wonders of the Industrial World. Lager, Mum and Me (One Life), Real Life: Being Terri, Pompeii - The Last Day and My Family and Autism have all been nominated for Flaherty Documentary.
