BalletBoyz returns to screen and stage

BalletBoyz will return to live performance in March with Deluxe, but, ahead of that, this Christmas, its third feature film, Rumpelstilzchen, directed and produced by Artistic Directors Michael Nunn and William Trevitt with Richard Jones, with music composed by David Sawer and movement direction by Sarah Fahie, will have a cast including Jane Horrocks in the title role, alongside Tanya Reynolds, John Marquez, Daniel Francis-Swaby, Edward Davis, and Bailey Pepper.

Rumpelstilzchen will be released from 21 December in Curzon Cinemas and on Sky Arts and Freeview on 23 December.

Deluxe, originally planned for 2020 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the all male ensemble, will tour the UK from March to May. It was one of the first pieces of work to be adapted in lockdown for broadcast, premièring online and later on BBC Four.

For Deluxe, Shanghai-based dancer and choreographer Xie Xin (TAO Dance Theatre, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui’s Eastman) will choreograph Ripple set to an original score by composer Jiang Shaofeng and Maxine Doyle will present Bradley 4:18 to live jazz music composed by Cassie Kinoshi,of the SEED Ensemble, inspired by Kate Tempest’s poems, in particular, Pictures on a Screen.

The current BalletBoyz company includes Dan Baines, Paris Fitzpatrick, Seirian Griffiths, Ben Knapper, Luigi Nardone, Alecsander Nilsson, Dom Rocca and Kai Tomioka.
