She Bangs the Drums

Manchester’s Contact Young Company celebrates the 100 year anniversary of the Representation of the People Act with She Bangs the Drums.

It’s based on research at the People’s History Museum and will take place in the Museum of Science and Industry’s 1830 Warehouse as part of the city’s Wonder Women 2018 radical feminist festival.

She Bangs the Drums will explore familiar and unheard voices and stories from Manchester’s past as a centre of protest, from the Suffragettes to the Chartists. The 1918 Act saw the vote extended to all men over the age of 21 and women over 30, but with certain restrictions.

It runs from March 8-11 with some daytime performances.
