Dateline: 7th October, 2008
New Culture Minister Barbara Follett, the MP for Stevenage, has been appointed Minister for Culture, the Creative Industries and Tourism following Gordon Brown's Cabinet reshuffle. She replaces Margaret Hodge who has left the government to look after her husband who is ill. Follett was formerly Minister for the East of England, and Parliamentary Secretary for Equality. Before that, in May 2006 she became Parliamentary Private Secretary to Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell and Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Minister for Women, the Ruth Kelly. A former art student, she is married to novelist Ken Follett.
