Bates Moves to Sheffield Dan Bates, chief Executive of York Theatre Royal, is to move to Sheffield Theatres in September to take up the same post there. He replaces the interim chief executive Donna Munday. He joined the York theatre in 2005 and previously had a long career at Leeds' West Yorkshire Playhouse as Executive Director, having started at the organisation as a Stage Manager in the old Leeds Playhouse. The group, which comprises the the Crucible, the Lyceum and the Studio, recently appointed Daniel Evans as artistic director. The Crucible, which is the group's main producing theatre, is currently undergoing a £15m refurbishment which is due to be completed later this year. The 1068-seater Lyceum is a receiving house and the Studio, winner of the 2002 Peter Brook Empty Space Award, hosts a mixture of small-scale in-house and touring productions. "I feel incredibly honoured to take up this role," he said, "and am looking forward to completing the building project and ensuring we offer Sheffield fantastic theatre in brilliant refurbished facilities and return a vibrant producing theatre in the cultural heart of the city."
