Ben Bradshaw

Bradshaw Takes Over the DCMS

Ben Bradshaw, MP for Exeter, has been appointed as Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in the Cabinet reshuffle announced today, replacing Andy Burnham who moves to Health after the previous minister, Alan Johnson, became Home Secretary.

Ben Bradshaw has been MP for Exeter since winning the seat in the 1997 general election.

Before entering Parliament, he worked as a newspaper and radio journalist, starting his career in 1984 with Exeter's local paper the Express & Echo. After a stint at a local newspaper in Norwich, Ben moved into radio journalism with a posting at BBC Radio Devon. He became the BBC's Berlin correspondent in 1989 and reported on the fall of the Berlin Wall.

He became a Minister in the Foreign Office in 2001 and held posts as Deputy Leader of the Commons and Environment Minister before joining the Health team in 2007 as Minister of State for Health and South West.

He lists one of his hobbies as going to the theatre.
