Birmingham Hippodrome’s 2015 panto Aladdin was the theatre’s best-selling Christmas production in 14 years.
The show, which featured Marti Pellow, Julian Clary, Lee Mead and Matt Slack, was seen by more than 118,000 people.
Thirty-five per cent of the audience booked at the Hippodrome for the first time. People travelled from as far as Penzance and Glasgow to Birmingham.
Aladdin was the 25th panto directed by Michael Harrison, managing director of Qdos Entertainment’s panto division. He said, “the support we get in Birmingham is always astonishing—year after year the appeal of panto seems to grow.”
The Hippodrome’s chief executive Fiona Allan added, “I’m so proud of my team here at the theatre working tirelessly across front of house, the bars and restaurant and the box office at one of our busiest times of the year.”
Theatregoers donated more than £4,000 to be shared between Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital’s children’s charity.
