Stars Celebrate Betjeman A major line-up of famous names from theatre, music, film and television including Dame Judi Dench, Jools Holland, Ronnie Corbett, Edward Fox, Stephen Fry and Joanna Lumley will come together to celebrate the work of John Betjeman, one of Britain's best loved poets on Sunday 10th September. The John Betjeman Centenary Gala will be a one-off variety performance at the Prince of Wales Theatre, London, and is the climax of a series of events in 2006 marking the centenary of John Betjeman's birth. The Gala is in aid of the mental health charity SANE and is sponsored by Shell. The Gala will be hosted by Barry Humphries, the Australian comedian best known as Dame Edna Everage. Tickets are available immediately priced between £30 - £100 from the Prince of Wales Theatre Box Office: 0870 850 03989 or online at: www.delfontmackintosh.co.uk. The £100 tickets also include a complementary glass of champagne and a souvenir gala programme. There are also a limited number of £500 seats which include entry to the post-performance party, giving guests the opportunity to mingle and meet with the stars. This package also includes a complementary souvenir gala programme and a glass of champagne in the interval. These tickets should be booked on 020 7582 4038. The Gala and John Betjeman Centenary celebrations are being overseen by Candida Lycett Green, his daugher, who said, "The Gala will be the climax of a host of celebratory events throughout the country. My father was not only a poet: through his broadcasting and journalism he opened the public's eyes to the value of the buildings and landscape around them. These centenary celebrations are aimed at attracting a larger and more importantly a younger audience not only to appreciate his poetry but also his ideals." Please note that all three Archive indices are very long and will therefore take some time to download.
