Making dreams come true: Birmingham Royal Ballet

Birmingham Royal Ballet is taking its Dreams project on the road, offering a “unique” opportunity for ballet students to perform on stage alongside some of the company’s dancers in a public performance.

In 2020, Birmingham Royal Ballet will celebrate its 30th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the Dreams project will for the first time take place outside Birmingham, with performances of Swan Lake at the Mayflower Theatre, Southampton on Sunday 2 February 2020 and the Theatre Royal, Plymouth on Tuesday 31 March.

Dreams will also return for a third year to Birmingham Hippodrome. Dancers will be joined by undergraduate students of Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s orchestra for Swan Lake on Sunday 23 February.

Budding dancers of all ages who want to audition for the Plymouth productions have until Friday 12 July to apply, with auditions taking place on Sunday 15 September. Applications for Birmingham should be submitted by Friday 19 July, with auditions being held on Sunday 22 and Sunday 29 September.

Dreams project co-ordinator Sophie Humphries said, “we were blown away by the talent we saw in Southampton and are looking forward to meeting everyone at the Plymouth and Birmingham auditions.

“We were particularly impressed with the older dancers, seeing participants up to the age of 72 with just as much talent and energy as the younger dancers!”
