Birmingham to hold Chinese new year celebrations

The 2019 Chinese New Year celebrations in Birmingham

Three days of free festivities are to be held across Birmingham as part of the Chinese new year celebrations and to welcome in the year of the rat.

Birmingham Hippodrome's Patrick Studio will host choreographer Corey Baker's new dance piece performed by Hong Kong Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet on the last day, Sunday 26 January.

The main stage in Hippodrome Square will host the official opening and closing ceremonies with a variety of performances and free family friendly activities throughout the day.

Graham Callister, director of festivals at Birmingham Hippodrome said, “this will mark our fifth year being part of the festival and bringing some of the best talent to unique spaces.

“As a venue in the heart of Southside, we’re passionate about working with our local communities to offer exciting events across our wonderful city.”
