Barbican Announces 2009 - 2010 Highlights The Barbican has announced the highlights of its bite09 season for late 2009 to early 2010. The Michael Clark Company, an Artistic Associate at the Barbican since 2005, has been commissioned by bite09, along with Dance Umbrella (London), La Biennale di Venezia (Venice) and Dansens Hus (Stockholm) as part of European Network of Performing Arts (ENPARTS), to produce a new dance work, the creative starting point of which is the period in the 1970s when rock's holy trinity - David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed - worked in close proximity and produced some of their most iconic music. It will run from 28th October to 7th November. Roman Tragedies, a six hour performance of Coriolanus, Julius Caesar and Antony and Cleopatra, will run from 20th to 22nd November. Directed by Ivo van Hove and performed by Toneelgroep Amsterdam, the production is described as "ground-breaking". The audience will be able too move between the auditorium and the stage throughout the performance which will be relayed live via television screens, so that the audience can watch it from all angles. Finally Peter Brook returns to the Barbican Theatre with 11 and 12, based on his play Tierno Bokar which was critically acclaimed during its run in Warwick in 2005 where it was performed in French. 11 and 12 is a co-production between the C.I.C.T/Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, the Grotowski Institute in Poland and the Barbican. It will be rehearsed in Poland and Paris, rehearsed and premiered in Paris in November 2009 before coming to Barbican next year. It will be performed by an international cast in English. 11 and 12 is adapted by Brook with Marie-Héléne Estienne from Le Sage de Bandiagra by the great African writer Amadou Hampaté Bâ. The story describes the real life and teachings of Hampaté Bâs master, the Sufi sage Tierno Bokar, a humble and extraordinary man. It will run from 5th to 7th February, 2010. In addition, the Christmas show this year, running from 10th December to 3rd January, will be Pied Piper, orignally performed at the Theatre Royal Stratford East, which finishes a run at the Barbican tomorrow (14th March).
