Mammals The Sugar Wife

Bullimore and Kuti Share Blackburn Prize

Amelia Bullimore and Elizabeth Kuti are joint winners of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and will share the prize money, receiving $6,000 each. The panel were unable to separate the two into winner ($10,000) and special commendation ($2,000).

Bullimore was honoured for her play Mammals, produced at the Bush last year and currently on tour, and Kuti for The Sugar Wife, produced by Rough Magic at the Soho.

The other nominated writers each receive $1,000. They were:

  • Kay Adshead (U.K.) for Bites
  • Bathsheba Doran (U.S.) for Living Room in Africa
  • April De Angelis (U.K.) for Wild East
  • Melissa James Gibson (U.S.) for Current Nobody
  • Debbie Tucker Green (U.K.) for Stoning Mary
  • Linda Marshall Griffiths (U.K.) for Pomegranate
  • Beth Henley (U.S.) for Ridiculous Fraud
  • Oni Faida Lampley (U.S.) for Tough Titty
  • Kira Obolensky (U.S.) for Modern House
