The Blackpool Museum Project is looking to recruit a freelance curator this summer to work on the development of the new museum’s dance section and a collections researcher to assist with image selection.

The museum will explore the history of the British seaside holiday and popular entertainment utilising Blackpool’s collections alongside items from the V&A Museum, the British Music Hall Society, the EMI Archive Trust and private collections.

The freelance dance curator candidate will be required to research and develop the Dance section which explores Blackpool’s dance heritage, particular ballroom dancing and social dancing, including negotiating loans, image research and contemporary collecting.

He or she will work closely with the curator and museum team on the detailed briefs being submitted at the end of June 2019, identify and work on contemporary stories in other sections as required, attend some days at the Blackpool Dance Festival at the Winter Gardens and attend occasional workshops and meetings with the design team (external designers and Blackpool Museum project team) to discuss concept and content development.

The collections researcher candidate will be required to identify images held in Blackpool’s heritage collection that can be used in the creation of lively and visually interesting displays across each of the key themes.
