BLUE at the Royal Exchange Studio

DISCOVER THREE DISTINCTIVE NIGHTS OF NEW WORK FROM ESTABLISHED AND EMERGING ARTISTS BASED IN THE NORTH WEST

BLUE is a new three night showcase of exciting work, representing some of the best new work that the North West has to offer. Ranging in style and presentation blue offers you the chance to see a unique snapshot of some of the very best vibrant and creative projects. Each night promises an eclectic mix of poetry, music, drama, puppetry dance and visual theatre mixed together by the chilled out beats of DJ Pressy.

IN THE HOOD

Drama
In the Hood is a 30-minute drama, based on a famous anti-slavery speech by Willie Lynch in 1712. Through the use of multi-media and live performance techniques, this powerful piece of work is a hard-hitting exploration of history, race and equality.

TIDE LINE
Collaborators Theatre Company
Puppetry
From the tide-line of desolate beach, emerges a strange and displaced figure. Driven by the sounds of his memories, echoed by the cries of a ship-wrecked double bass, this sole survivor searches for the essence of his past……
Tide Line is a beautiful minimalist puppet ballet performed by Deborah Maurice (puppeteer/set designer and maker) and Stu Lewthwaite (double bassist).

ANGELS HELP ME WITH MY WASHING
The Cartesian Welles Company
Performance Theatre
Welcome to the very strange world of the Cartesian Welles Company. This new piece of work revolves around three exceptional characters: Venezuela Concertina who by reason of an enormous belly button has been diagnosed as acoustic; Elizabethan Spectator whose feet have been cooked and tinned to preserve their freshness, and last but definitely not least; Queen Vic who is extremely vocal once her vocal cords have been collected into a workable mass. Armed with a new sewing machine, The Cartesian Welles Company promises a 15 minutes of stunning theatre….
