Blue Peter Seeks Young Writers

The long-running BBC children's television programme Blue Peter has launched a search for the next generation of authors and playwrights.

Seven writers and illustrators, including playwright David Wood, have been commissioned to write the openings of stories and plays which competition entrants must complete. They will be available in schools and libraries throughout the period of the competition, which ends on 30th September.

Entrants must be fifteen or under. The judging takes place on 12th October and the winners announced on 17th. Winning entries will be published in a book illustrated by Quentin Blake and each winner will receive a laptop computer and an invitation to take part in a writing workshop with David Wood.

The competition is organised by the programme in association with Arts Council England, whose cief executive Peter Hewitt, said, “This is a fantastic opportunity to discover new young talent. Blue Peter is such a long-standing favourite with children and the Arts Council is thrilled to be working with them to inspire kids and give them the chance to work with some of the country’s best writers.”
